Our secret weapon
This year’s first soloists for Belgium and The Netherlands are singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw and ‘secret weapon’ Fernando Varela. Still in the blossom of his career, 38-year-old DeGraw conquered many hearts with his music. After his studies at the Berklee School of Music in San Francisco, he got signed to Clive Davis’s J Record Label, which immediately launched his career, leading to smash hits such as ‘I Don’t Wanna Be’, ‘Chariot’, ‘Not Over You’. From the other side of the music spectrum we present you Fernando Varela, a young tenor from Puerto Rico, who was recently discovered by 16 time Grammy winner David Foster. Varela shared the stage with Neil Diamond, Kelly Clarkson and Lionel Richie, with a repertoire that stretches from Puccini’s ‘Nessun Dorma’ to Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’. A real shooting star!
